SELF-SUFFIENT PROJEC...

Post navigation

With the project Proeftuin, a 600 m² plot of (leased) land with a small hut—originally designed and built by an unknown person—is transformed into an experimental and research space exploring Building, Living, Thinking, inspired by Martin Heidegger.

How can a self-sufficient “being” be realized? What roles do design, identity, art, culture, and nature play in this? What is the meaning of relationship and realization? Proeftuin creates space for exploring relationships. How can the connection between humans and nature be strengthened?

Proeftuin also offers space for realization. Here, “realization” has a dual meaning:

  1. Recognizing that something needs to change

  2. Putting that change into action

This is a hands-on project where different theories and methods for designing a self-sufficient (living) environment are tested. Activities range from soil improvement, vegetable cultivation, to architecture, recycling, and exploring the relationship between people and nature. The living lab also provides space and inspiration for artistic expression and the creation of work materials, whether homemade or recycled.
